Shadow
Shadow has fascinated astrologers, psychologists, and spiritual seekers for decades.
There's nothing that helps us grow as individuals the way embracing our Shadow does.
We could say Shadow is the Achilles' heel of the individuation process - no one can achieve wholeness without eventually meeting their Shadow.
Shadow work begins when who we think we are meets what we refuse to see – and that shift is where transformation becomes possible.
The Shadow, a term derived from the work of Carl Jung, describes the parts of ourselves that we deny, disown, or repress because they don’t align with our ideal self-image.
In the Shadow course, we will explore Shadow through:
- The 7th House and the 3rd Quadrant: The 3rd quadrant is the part of the chart where the Shadow is directly explored and integrated. The 3rd quadrant, sitting opposite the 1st quadrant of Self, becomes the arena where shadow material is revealed, mirrored, and eventually integrated.
- The Social Planets: Jupiter and Saturn represent the terrain where the hard work of integration is done. The social planets ensure that the energy of the personal planets is healthily channeled so that it doesn’t divert into addiction, avoidance, or feeling at odds with the world.
- Oppositions and Polarities: The opposition aspect is the hallmark of projection, often manifesting through relationships, where we see in others the qualities we deny in ourselves. Every sign and house axis represents a balance of opposites, and the Lunar Nodes are one opposition we all have in our natal charts.
- Planetary Archetypes: Each planet - from the Sun and the Moon all the way to Pluto - carries archetypal energies that can manifest consciously or unconsciously, depending on how they are integrated.
